EMPA is looking for a post-doc in the field of: Mechanical properties of ceramic thin films.
Your tasks:
You will work on applied research projects funded by InnoSuisse as well as on basic science projects on the small scale mechanical behavior of materials. You will exploit small scale mechanical testing facilities to study deformation and fracture mechanisms of hard ceramic coatings and nanocrystalline ceramics under extreme conditions of temperature and strain rate. You will characterize the microstructure of the deformed and fractured materials using cutting edge analytical techniques such as scanning and transmission electron microscopy. It is intended that all research output from the projects be publishable in peer-reviewed scien-tific journals, and the candidate will be expected to take a lead in the writing process.
Your profile:
You must hold a PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or similar. A high level of motivation to work in close collaboration with industry, experimentalists and an international, multidisciplinary research team is essential. Experience in small scale mechanical testing and/or analytical techniques such as TEM, FIB, XRD, SEM etc. is desirable, as well as in hard coating materials.
