• The objective of this work will be to participate to the integration of copper filled TSV in Siphotonics platform and to investigate the effect of TSV induced strain on optical components such as wave-guides, photo-diodes, and modulators. The quantification of the stresses in photonic Si is vital for the optimization of design and for the development of reliable 3D stacked structures.

    ThePhD student task will be to define and integrate 3D test structures including TSV-Middle and optical elements in collaboration with Si-Photonics design team. Advanced characterizations (μ-Raman, nano-diffraction at synchrotron) will be carried out to extract strain maps in optical components around TSV.

  • There are still few places available for the Summer School on Experimental Nano-and Micromechanics, being held from 11th to 15th of September 2017 at the Max-Planck für Eisenforschung, Düsseldorf (Germany). PhD students and Postdocs are encourage to apply by sending an e-mail to micromech2017@mpie.de before the registration deadline on June 2nd.

    For reminder: The school is organized by Christoph Kirchlechner (MPIE, Düsseldorf) and Benoit Merle (FAU, Erlangen) and aims at providing a comprehensive overview on experimental nano- and micromechanical testing methods. Focus thereby is put on material properties which we can reliably extract from in situ micromechanical experiments. The school will deal with nanoindentation, methods to explore the small-scale plastic and fracture properties of materials and interfaces, frequently used characterization techniques with in situ capabilities and, finally, simulation techniques.

    Registration is limited to 40 participants. The participation fee is 250€ and includes a BBQ party and 3 lunches, as well as all drinks during the school.
