• The 2018 Mecano School registration is opened!  It will close on october 15th, or when the number of participants reaches 65. So don’t wait.

Registration is directly made on the IESC server: http://www.iesc.univ-corse.fr/fr/participation/inscriptions-en-ligne/acces-enregistrement/idecole4/959/

You will first have to obtain a login and password before being asked to fill the registration form. Be patient, the server is slow.

Looking forward to see you in Cargèse.

  • The GDRi general School 2018 will take place in Cargèse, Corsica Oct 28-Nov 2. The (exciting) program of the school is online at : https://mecano2018.sciencesconf.org/program

There are a few places left for poster presentations (title and abstract to be sent directly to marc.legros@cemes.fr). Poster presenters will have the priority for registration. The number of attendants will be limited to 65 persons in any case.

The registration will be open from Sept 1 to Oct 15 and will be done directly on the Cargèse website (IESC). A link will be posted on the school webpage. As mentioned, no registration fee for this school. The world-record low fees (210/250€) are for double/single room and all breakfast/meals (except for 3 diners) and a few cool Mecano gifts.  They will be updated at the time of registration opening and will have to be paid directly to the IESC in Cargèse.

Looking forward to seeing you there

  • Four conferences related to the themes of mechanical strength of materials, defects in semiconductors, mechanics and TEM have abstract submission deadlines approaching very fast :

    • ICSMA (July 2018, Ohio): the deadline for abstracts submission is January 15th, 2018.
    • EDS (June 2018, Greece): the deadline for abstract submission is February 19th, 2018.
    • European Society for Experimental Mechanics (EuraSEM).  (www.icem18.org) Brussels, July 1- 7th, 2018.  A session on “Micro- and nano-scale mechanical testing” is organized. Deadline January 15th, 2018.
    • http://imc19.com/ : International Microscopy Conference, Australia, 9-14 sept 2018. Many symposia related to interface, small scale structures, in situ. Deadline for abstract submission: February 1st, 2018.

  • At the Department Materials Physics of the Montanuniversität Leoben (MUL), Daniel Kiener focusses on the understanding of deformation and failure processes on a nanometer length scale. Aim of his work is a knowledge driven design of novel high strength and extremely fracture resistant materials. This effort is now also recognized by the European Research Council (ERC), which supports the excellent fundamental research of Dr. Kiener via a Consolidator Grant over the next five years by two million Euros, awarded to the project TOUGHIT* (Tough Interface Tailored Nanostructured Metals)
